Conceptual Project “Otherness”

 The tumultuous years and days of the recent past, the present, and the near future are saturated with oppositions such as war and peace, candor and deceit, stability and instability, hope and despair, enclosing us from all sides. Within these contradictions, each of us is continually seeking to connect with one pole of these binaries and to cast out the other. It is difficult to claim a single, unified position in this choosing, for it is entangled in a labyrinth of personal, social, cultural, existential and related conditions.

This project began with a reading of Jacques Derrida’s thought, in an attempt to grasp his perspective on deconstruction, and ultimately arrived at staging the very contradictions that afflict every artist. The concepts we derived from this shared reading—shaped by collective thinking and individual emotions—appeared to us as a series of oppositions that we place before the gaze of others: an ensemble of meanings that are ambiguous and unsettled, only ever poised for further readings, interpretations and reinterpretations of Otherness.
