I am a gray mass,
A wounded seven-year-old child, with a scarred soul, Born from a desperate struggle for affection, Buried under the rubble of threats, seeking color.
I grasp at any color to pull back the curtain and be seen— Greens, reds, blues, yellows, and all shades of gray…
Iranian Women’ s Art
The representation of Iranian women’s art in contemporary Iranian art is relatively limited. Female visual artists in professional art spaces encounter difficulties and neglect. They face two major problems in their pursuit of recognition: first, the professional visual art community only focuses on a few artists, and the criteria for this selection are unclear. Second, Iranian society is just beginning to acknowledge women’s issues, making it even more challenging for female artists. Additionally, the presence of women in Iranian art is sometimes reduced to a political show with slogans. In response to these challenges, the “Iranian Women’s Art” series of shows was created at “Shaargallery” in 2021 to showcase women artists whose work represents “concealed art” in Iran. This series has taken an initial step and aims to make further steps.
